Parents as Teachers

Being a parent is hard work.

To help parents support their child’s development, CCF offers the nationally recognized home visiting program, Parents as Teachers, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health. Parents as Teachers help parents understand child development and connect them to the resources they need to make healthy choices for themselves and their children. Parents as Teachers offers free personal visits customized for the needs of families.

~ Due to COVID, we are currently providing SECURE virtual visits, as well as in person visits. ~

How does it work?

Since this is YOUR child and YOUR family, YOU set the agenda.

The program features 4 components:

Personal visits in the comfort of your own home (Virtual visits are also offered);
Group Connections Family Nights filled with activities that promote parent-child bonding;
Child health, educational, and behavioral screenings; and
A comprehensive resource network that connects parents and children with the additional supports they need to succeed.

Together these components:

GIVE YOU INSIGHT into the different phases of early childhood development, which can help you better understand your child’s needs and behaviors as they grow.
Help IMPROVE parenting practices that will enable you to truly bond with your child from the very beginning. This early bonding will ensure a healthy and lasting relationship that will prepare your child for success in life.
Provide EARLY DETECTION of developmental delays and health issues so you can take action as needed and get the very best supports for your child’s health and well-being.
PREVENT unintended child abuse/neglect by modeling healthy interactions during challenging moments and by providing calming coping techniques for you when you need them most.
INCREASE children’s school readiness/school success.
